The NHL is taking its broadcasts globally, as more than 200 countries will now get to stream and watch every hockey game, as DAZN is now an official partner.
Starting with the 2025-26 season, DAZN will become the new global home of the NHL.TV platform, offering live and on-demand streaming of all NHL games, the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Final included, in nearly 200 countries, yes that's right, pretty much everywhere across the world.
The service will replace the current NHL.TV product and be offered as a standalone subscription or as an add-on for existing DAZN subscribers.
Further details for the current NHL.TV subscribers will be available before the transition. Financial terms and the length of the agreement were not disclosed.
Although NHL.TV content will still be blacked out in the U.S., Canada, and the Nordics (Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden), where rights are owned by ESPN, TNT Sports, Sportsnet, and Prime Video, fans in the rest of the world will have unprecedented access to all NHL games.
That includes global audiences who follow the Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and Vancouver Canucks.
As a result of this new DAZN deal, global fans of these Canadian franchises can now stream all of their games, regardless of time zone or geography, on essentially any device.
Shay Segev, DAZN Group CEO, said: 'DAZN's landmark agreement with the NHL is a significant step forward in our mission to deliver the most exciting sports action to fans across the globe. We're excited to bring a premium North American sports property to a broad international audience through an innovative, accessible, and immersive viewing experience. By combining the NHL's thrilling content with DAZN's global platform and best-in-class technology, we're unlocking new ways for fans to connect with the game they love -- anytime, anywhere, and on any device.'
There are going to be a few blackout restrictions for some live matches in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, which will still be available on demand once the matches are over.
Previously, the NHL had an agreement with Sportradar for NHL.TV's technology, and it managed the marketing itself.
The new agreement adds to DAZN's growing portfolio of global sports content, such as NFL Game Pass, PGA Tour Pass, and FIBA's Courtside 1981.
DAZN has carried hockey in certain markets before, such as Austria's pro league and the KHL, but this is its biggest foray into the sport worldwide.
