As the Vegas Golden Knights get set for the start of a new NHL season, the front office has been dealing with the impending free agency of star Jack Eichel. Eichel will be entering the final year of his current contract, and there has been some talk that he could entertain the idea of leaving the team.
Vegas just landed star Mitch Marner this summer, giving Eichel a legitimate running mate for years to come. But free agency can make things weird for any player, and anything can happen once a player enters it.
Eichel has been a centerpiece for the Golden Knights after joining the team years ago, and Vegas needs to do whatever it takes to sign him. The front office has made it clear that he is a priority, but until a pen is signed on paper, anything can go down.
While all the rumors fly around about the future of Eichel, one NHL insider believes that it's all but certain that he stays in Vegas. According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, Eichel won't be signing elsewhere, and it's just a matter of how
Seravalli believes that Eichel will likely receive around the $13 million mark, if not a little more. The new contract from star Kirill Kaprizov of the Minnesota Wild could have an impact on this deal for the star as well.
Frank Seravalli: Re Jack Eichel: He's not signing somewhere else...they've got him, so it's probably gonna end up in that $13-$13.5m, maybe [Kaprizov] pushes it to $14 - Real Kyper & Bourne (9/30)

Last season, Eichel put up career numbers with the Golden Knights. The veteran posted 28 goals and 66 assists for the team, helping them get to the postseason.
It all remains up in the air with his free agency, but an extension does seem to be coming down the line very soon.
