Despite signing star Mitch Marner to a massive contract this summer, the Vegas Golden Knights front office is now gearing up for another big deal. Star Jack Eichel is entering the final year of his current contract, and Vegas will need to retain him for the long haul.
There has been some speculation that Eichel could leave town, but it seems that Eichel may not let that happen. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Eichel may be waiting to see how the market shakes out before re-signing with the Golden Knights.
Eichel has been one of the better players in the NHL for years, and Vegas needs him to help them go after another Stanley Cup title. Last season with the Golden Knights, Eichel posted 28 goals and 66 assists over 77 regular-season games.

This seems to be consistent from what Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon said earlier in the offseason. McCrimmon seemed very determined to not let Eichel get to free agency next summer.
“The guy is a tremendous player,” McCrimmon said. “He’s one of the top guys in the NHL. He’s got great character and great leadership. You see night in and night out what he does for our team. So that will be a really important piece of business for us. I sure hope to keep Jack in our organization. Jack loves it here. I hope we can find common ground and keep him a Golden Knight.”
As long as Vegas is willing to pay Eichel what he wants, it seems that the partnership will continie for a long time. Losing Eichel would drastically hurt this team, and the Golden Knights can't afford to let that happen.
