The Edmonton Oilers have had a strong 2025–26 season so far, posting a 28-19-8 record and leading the Pacific Division. Their offense remains one of the most dangerous in the NHL, with Connor McDavid driving scoring and playmaking.

The Oilers’ power play continues to perform at an elite level, helping the team stay competitive in close games. They are currently on a three-game winning streak, including 4-3 overtime wins against the Sharks, following a win over the Capitals and a high-scoring victory over the Ducks.

Compared to past seasons, Edmonton looks more resilient in tight situations. The team has shown an improved ability to erase deficits and control momentum late in games.

While the Oilers have been playoff contenders in recent years, this roster appears more balanced in terms of effort, structure, and late-game execution. Their success has often been built on star performances, but consistency in other areas remains a key focus.

Despite the strong results, NHL insiders Sean Gentille and Dom Luszczyszyn questioned Edmonton’s bottom six in their latest rankings for The Athletic. They ranked the Oilers 14th overall and challenged readers to “look at this team’s bottom six and find someone good.”

The Oilers’ bottom six currently includes Matthew Savoie, Josh Samanski, Jack Roslovic, Mattias Janmark, Curtis Lazar, and Trent Frederic. This group brings speed, physical play, and forechecking pressure, while also handling defensive responsibilities and late-game shifts.

They offer lineup depth, but questions remain about their scoring production and ability to influence outcomes against top competition.

The Oilers will face the Minnesota Wild on Jan. 31 in a matchup that will test their depth, scoring balance, and defensive structure once again.
