NHL Issues Scoring Change After Bruins-Hurricanes Game

The NHL announced a scoring correction following the Boston Bruins’ 5–1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night at TD Garden.

The update was posted by the league’s Public Relations account on X.

“OFFICIAL SCORING CHANGE: Game 1214 @Canes at @NHLBruins

Goal at 1:28 of the third period now reads David Pastrnak from Morgan Geekie and Elias Lindholm. #NHLStats”

The correction clarified the assists on Pastrnak’s second goal of the game, initially scored assisted exclusively by Geekie during live play.

After review, both Geekie and Lindholm were credited with helpers.

The goal gave Pastrnak his second of the night and extended Boston’s lead to 4–0 early in the third period. He later completed a natural hat trick, finishing with three goals and two assists in a five-point performance.

“It was fun to win a hockey game and see the Garden happy and cheerful,” Pastrnak said. “It’s obviously been a tough couple weeks, so I’m proud of the group.”

Geekie also had five points, scoring the opening goal of the game and assisting on four goals.

Lindholm, meanwhile, added a goal and two assists as Boston (31-37-9) snapped a 10-game winless streak

In net, Jeremy Swayman made 39 saves on his way to earning his 100th NHL victory.

On a sour note, the Bruins were eliminated from playoff contention earlier in the day when Montreal beat Philadelphia, ending Boston’s postseason streak dating back to 2016, even though they pulled off the win over Carolina later on Saturday.

Boston visits the Buffalo Sabres next aiming at either escaping the bottom of the Eastern Conference or increasing their odds at landing the No. 1 overall pick, currently set at an 8.5% chance, per Tankathon.
