NHL Makes Decision Following Darnell Nurse's Action on Roope Hintz

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse drew all the attention during his team's win over the Dallas Stars on Friday in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals for the wrong reasons.

Nurse slashed Stars forward Roope Hintz in front of Edmonton’s net early in the third period. Hintz gave Nurse a shove from behind, and Nurse responded with a downward slash to Hintz’s left foot.

Hintz dropped to the ice and needed assistance to leave the rink without putting weight on his leg. The play was reviewed for a potential major penalty but resulted in a two-minute minor.

According to Sportsnet's Mark Spector, the NHL will not issue any further discipline.

Spector confirmed the news Saturday, reporting that the Department of Player Safety had reviewed the incident and opted against a suspension or hearing.

"Not sure what’s been reported, but @NHLPlayerSafety will not be speaking with Darnell Nurse today," Spector posted. "No suspension or discipline forthcoming, I am told."

Hintz did not return to the game. He had logged 12:08 of ice time before exiting and entered the night with 11 points in 14 playoff games.

DeBoer said Saturday that Hintz was undergoing medical tests and remains day-to-day.

”Getting tests this morning,” DeBoer said. “We’re waiting on those test results.”

The Oilers bounced back from their Game 1 collapse and delivered a complete performance in Game 2, winning 3-0 to tie the series 1-1, with netminder Stuart Skinner making 25 saves for his third postseason shutout.

Game 3 is set for Sunday at 3 p.m. ET as the series shifts to Edmonton for the next two games before it returns to Dallas for Game 5.
