The NHL announced a scoring correction following the New Jersey Devils’ 4–3 overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night at Prudential Center.
The update was posted by the NHL's Public Relations account on X.
“OFFICIAL SCORING CHANGE: Game 220 @CanadiensMTL at @NJDevils. Goal at 18:53 in the third period now reads Timo Meier from Dawson Mercer and Jack Hughes.”
The adjustment clarified assists on Meier’s late game-tying goal, which came with 1:07 remaining in regulation and sent the contest to overtime.
Mercer and Hughes were officially credited on the play, recognizing their involvement in the offensive sequence that set up Meier’s finish from the side of the net.

Following the scoring change, Mercer has seven assists in 15 games this season, while Hughes moved up to eight assists in 14 appearances.
Meier’s equalizer capped off a comeback effort for New Jersey after Montreal had taken a 3–2 lead earlier in the third period on Oliver Kapanen’s rebound goal.
The Devils then secured the win when Jesper Bratt scored on a breakaway 1:33 into overtime, extending New Jersey’s perfect home record to 6–0–0.
Overall, the Devils improved to 10–4–0 on the season and became the first team this campaign to reach 10 wins.
“It’s nice to get 10 wins, but we want to keep building our game,” Meier said postgame. “This game was a good one to learn from.”
New Jersey will continue its homestand against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. Montreal returns home to face the Utah Mammoth to open a four-game homestand.
