The Minnesota Wild’s season came to an end on Thursday night with a 3-2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 of their first-round series.
With the loss, the career of one of the most accomplished goaltenders in NHL history also reached its conclusion.
Marc-Andre Fleury, who had already announced that the 2024-25 campaign would be his last, received a huge sendoff from fans, teammates, and pretty much the hockey world as a whole.
The NHL quickly responded with two official posts on X. The first read, "What an absolutely marvelous career it's been for Flower."
The second, posted shortly after and including a video montage of his career, said, "There will never be another quite like Flower. Thanks for all the memories, Marc-Andre Fleury."

Fleury did not appear in Game 6, serving as backup after starting Game 5 in Filip Gustavsson's place. But once the final horn sounded at Xcel Energy Center, the focus shifted to the 40-year-old netminder.
As the teams shook hands, chants of "Fleury! Fleury!" echoed through the arena while Golden Knights players, several of whom were once his teammates during his stint in Vegas, gave him individual acknowledgments.
Fleury skated one last lap as fans stood in appreciation, and even the referees went on to shake his hand.

Fleury retires with 575 regular-season wins, the second-most in NHL history, and 92 playoff wins in 170 postseason games.
The netminder captured three Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins and added a Vezina Trophy in 2021 while playing for the Golden Knights.
Fleury also had stints with the Chicago Blackhawks and lastly the Minnesota Wild in a career that spanned 21 seasons, beginning as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NHL Draft.
The goalie will hang his pads with 1,043 regular-season games under his belt and after signing his last contract, a one-year extension, in April 2024.
