Welcome to NHL Predictions! The weekend is here. Fall is here as well, and it certainly feels that way in some places. As you are getting those Halloween decorations put up, carving those pumpkins, or maybe even putting up a Christmas Tree (Last Word does not judge), we invite you to take a break and join us for some predictions. We are going to Hockeytown today for a Saturday night game between the Detroit Red Wings and the St. Louis Blues.

NHL Predictions

St. Louis Blues vs Detroit Red Wings

Time: 7:00 P.M. EST

TV: FanDuel Sports Network Midwest, FanDuel Sports Network Detroit

2024-25 Season Series: Blues Won, 2-0

The former Central Division rivals met twice last season. The Blues won both games, sweeping the Red Wings for the first time since the 2017-18 season (excluding the shortened 2019-20 season, when the teams met only once).

The second game was notable for the NHL debut of Blues’ prospect Jimmy Snuggerud. The Blues tied the game in the final minute on a goal by Jordan Kyrou, then won in overtime on a goal by Cam Fowler.

Blues Back on the Road

The Blues are coming off a home stand in which they went 1-2-1. Two of the four games saw the team give up seven or more goals. Joel Hofer has struggled between the pipes, being pulled in each of his last two starts. Jordan Binnington continues to be as good as he always is. He is likely to get the start against the Wings.

The Blues will be playing in just their third road game of the season. In contrast to their 1-3-1 record on home ice, the Blues are 2-0 on the road. This short trip may help the Blues get back on track. After Saturday, the team will face Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night in Pittsburgh.

Red Wings Seeking Another Home Win

Unlike the Blues, the Red Wings have been delicious on home ice. The Wings have started the season with a 4-1-0 record in home games, including a four-game winning streak. This includes wins over the Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Edmonton Oilers. All were playoff teams last year, with the Panthers and Oilers meeting in the Stanley Cup Final. The Red Wings are looking to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Picking up wins against some of the NHL’s best is a great way to work towards that goal.

However, the team is going into Saturday’s game following two rough road losses. After falling to the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday, the Wings lost 7-2 the next night to the New York Islanders. This is a bump in the road for a team starting the season strong. It will be interesting to see if they can get back on track Saturday in front of their home fans.

Prediction

The Red Wings are playing well at home. The Blues are playing well on the road. Something will have to give on Saturday. One of these streaks will end. Which one?

The home team earns the two points and extends its home-winning streak. Furthermore, the team records its first shutout of the season.

Red Wings win, 2-0

Prop Bets

The over/under is set at 5.5 goals. We are taking the under with two goals scored.

For prop bets, we are picking Patrick Kane to score for the Red Wings. Since we expect the Blues to be shut out, we will focus on Binnington, who is likely to get the start. We suggest taking Binnington to make 25+ saves.
