Training camps have opened around the League as teams prepare for the upcoming season. However, the NHL Rumors do not sleep. We have Sidney Crosby sign an extension in Pittsburgh, Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond sign new contracts in Detroit, and Thomas Harley getting his deal in Dallas. Dawson Mercer and the New Jersey Devils agreed on a new deal early on Friday morning.

However, some free agents, including Jeremy Swayman and Cole Perfetti, still need contractsBrock Boeser, who is eligible for an extension, also needs a contract.

In this edition of NHL Rumors, we look at the latest surrounding Swayman and the Bruins and what Boeser and the Canucks plan to do.

Let’s Dive into these NHL rumors as the preseason begins.

NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks

When Will Jeremy Swayman Ink a New Deal?

As discussed on the Full Press NHL Podcast, the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman are in contract talks. As written, there has been optimism, as both parties want to make a long-term contract. However, Bruins GM Don Sweeney showed frustration on Wednesday when camp opened because he had not signed his number one priority.

“Jeremy Swayman will not be in attendance tomorrow on the ice,” Sweeney said. “He has chosen to wait, and rightfully so, until a contract is settled. It’s our intention to continue to negotiate a contract. I’m disappointed that when you set things as a priority in a general manager’s spot that you do your best to try and accomplish that and I haven’t been able to do that yet.”

The deadline for the Bruins to get their number one goalie signed and eligible this season and the playoffs is December 1st.

“I will not go in depth of the negotiations or talks we had,” Sweeney said. “We’re excited about the players that are here and looking to move forward. As I said, I’m disappointed, but at the end of the day, I’m optimistic because I think we’ll find a landing spot before Dec. 1.”

The podcast reported that the deal on the table going back to the spring is eight years at $8.5 million AAV. Swayman has become Boston’s number-one goalie, and Linus Ullmark is now in Ottawa. Many thought the deal would get done right away. Swayman has done everything to be in town and show up for “captain’s practices” but understands this is a business.

The Bruins love that salary hierarchy and having everyone fall into place. This same situation played out with David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy, and things worked out. Sweeney is hoping this situation does not drag into the season.

The real question will be whether the Bruins see Swayman as one of the top eight goaltenders, as Jamie McLennan told RG.org.

Brock Boeser to Play Out the Season, Extension Talks on Hold

Moving to the Great White North, Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser was eligible for an extension on July 1st and is going to play out the season and talk contract once it is over.

“Just let it play out,” Boeser told NHL.com of his contract situation. “Obviously coming off a blood clot, I think I’ve got a lot to prove, just kind of dealing with that little setback. So, I’m just focused on having a great camp again like I did last year, and trying to have a fast start to this season again.”

Boeser is entering the final year of his deal, paying him $6.65 million. Last season, he hit the 30-goal and 40-goal mark for the first time. He led the Canucks in playoff goals while tying for the team lead in points. However, as he said, he could not play in Game 6 of Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Edmonton Oilers because of a blood clot.

So, he wants to prove that it was not just a one-off season, as Rob Simpson told Full Press Hockey.

“Boeser six and a half mil. I remember when he signed his last one; it was actually surprisingly high at the time. He had some personal issues a couple of seasons back with his father passing away that kind of overlapped the end of one season into another, and then he broke his hand,” Simpson said. “It was just kind of a bad run for him, and he couldn’t get to the 30-goal mark.

And then suddenly, bang, he blows up and has a huge year this past season. So good for him. He’s a great kid, great guy. I’m happy for him that way. I don’t know. I don’t have an answer in terms of how they’re approaching us and how long they’ll wait to take care of it; I think they’ll be a little bit leery. Although he’s only 27, he’s not one of these guys pushing mid-30s. He still has a lot of potential, and obviously, he’s coming off a great season.”

It is going to be interesting to see what the Canucks pay him since Elias Pettersson just signed an eight-year $92.8 million extension. If Boeser has another season like he did, the Canucks will have to pay him. Or they let him walk, and another team pays him in free agency. The good thing is Boeser is back playing.

That does it for this edition of NHL Rumors. Stay tuned for another jam-packed edition that is coming soon.
