James Murphy of RG Media: Multiple sources have said that the Boston Bruins have been looking for scoring depth, with one saying they’ve inquired about Vancouver Canucks wingers Kiefer Sherwood and Conor Garland.
The Bruins aren’t the only one looking at Sherwood, as another source said that the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres, and Detroit Red Wings have shown some interest.
The 30-year-old Sherwood is a pending UFA and carries a $1.5 million cap hit. The 29-year-old Garland has six years at a $6 million salary cap, on an extension that hasn’t kicked in yet. Another source said that the Canucks don’t really want to trade Garland as they see him as part of their core.
Rick Dhaliwal: It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Minnesota Wild and the San Jose Sharks inquired about Kiefer Sherwood.
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: The deadline for the Ottawa Senators to sign or trade Alex Formenton‘s rights is today at 5:00, and there is “no chance” that a trade is going to happen. He won’t be eligible to play in the NHL this season if he doesn’t sign before the deadline.
He was among the players that were found not guilty in the sexual assault trial, and the Senators have been trying to trade his rights for months. NHL interest in him has been limited, with the Senators looking for a draft pick in return.
He’s signed with HC Ambri-Piotta in the Swiss League until their Christmas break, and could remain there for the rest of the season. Formenton has put up five goals and four assists in 20 games this season. He’s been out of the NHL since the 2021-22 season ended.
The Senators hold his rights until July 1st of 2027, unless they get special permission from the NHL to renounce his rights.
