Notre Dame will kick off its 2023 season against Navy at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, both programs announced Thursday.

The 96th meeting between the Fighting Irish and the Midshipmen will be Aug. 26, 2023. The game will air on NBC and its streaming website, Peacock. The game was originally slated for Nov. 11, 2023.

“We’re thrilled to be able to provide another opportunity for our team and fans to experience the culture and hospitality of Ireland,” Notre Dame director of athletics Jack Swarbrick said in a statement. “This trip overseas continues to strengthen our academic and athletic presence around the globe.”

Notre Dame and Navy held the longest continuous rivalry in college football at 93 years before COVID-19 restrictions canceled the 2020 game. In August 2020, the two programs signed an agreement to continue their rivalry series for the next 12 seasons through 2032.

The 2023 game will be the third Notre Dame-Navy game in Ireland, following a 54-27 Irish win in 1996 at Croke Park in Dublin. Notre Dame won 50-10 in 2012 at Aviva Stadium.

“In 2012, it was one of the greatest airlifts in all of sports with more than 35,000 people coming from the United States to witness the beauty of Ireland and the pageantry that is a Navy-Notre Dame football weekend,” Navy AD Chet Gladchuk said. “We expect just as many people to return in 2023.”

Notre Dame (7-1) and Navy (2-6) will renew their rivalry Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
