After plenty of rumors suggesting an extension would get done, the Chicago Blackhawks and newly-acquired defenseman Bowen Byram have agreed to terms. Byram’s new extension is for six years, paying the 26-year-old $12.5 million per season. The deal is the largest for any defenseman in the NHL.
With the upcoming season under consideration, the new deal ties Byram to the Blackhawks for seven seasons.
Byram was already spotted in Chicago and on the ice just days after his wedding and the reports of a new contract.
For what its worth, #24 is a fun number for Byram if that is indeed the case.
Now that Byram is locked up, the Blackhawks will likely make a few small moves. That said, expect most of this roster to look rather similar to last season. The youth will get lots of runway, and the veterans will be asked to support that cast. Don’t get it wrong, the Blackhawks could certainly make another big move, but the dominos will have to fall correctly for Kyle Davidson to pull the trigger.
The Four Feathers Podcast crew submitted our predictions for Byram’s new deal. It looks like our guy Blackhawks Cowboy was spot on in his prediction.
