The Edmonton Oilers entered the 2025-26 campaign on the back of two straight Stanley Cup Finals appearances, but this year, their post-season hopes ended much sooner than recent seasons at the hands of the Pacific Division rival Anaheim Ducks.

In the regular season however, the Oilers were fantastic as usual, with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl once again playing at their very best and establishing themselves as top-five players in the National Hockey League. McDavid will almost certainly be nominated and the favorite for the Hart Trophy, but it's another Oilers star that has drawn the most attention in award voting.

After putting up a career high 21 goals and 95 points in 82 games played, the overwhelming expectation around the NHL was that star defenseman Evan Bouchard would be named a finalist for the Norris Trophy. However, on Thursday, the three finalists were announced as Cale Makar, Zach Werenski and Rasmus Dahlin, with many taking to social media to call out the snub of Bouchard, who led all blue liners in points through the regular season by a considerable margin.

Not only did Bouchard lead all defenseman in points, but he had a +25 differential for a team that struggled at times throughout the year, and with the next closes blue liner having 81 points (Werenski), to not even see Bouchard as a finalist is certainly a questionable call.

Then, the Edmonton Oilers got involved, with their social media team making it clear how unhappy they were with the Professional Hockey Writers Association after their decision saw No. 2 snubbed of an opportunity at his first Norris Trophy.

Given the numbers, it's very easy to see why most believe Bouchard was snubbed, as he outscored all three of the finalists, and while there is a certain emphasis on defense for this award, it's long been known to fans as the best offensive defenseman award.

Obviously, this post won't change anything for Bouchard and the voting, but for a team to directly take to social media and call out the Hockey Writers for their decision is certainly an interesting move.
