Oilers’ Cup Hopes Take a Hit: Zach Hyman Out for the Playoffs

Things were going very well for the Edmonton Oilers. They’re up three games to one on the Dallas Stars, and maybe their run will continue just fine. But their chances took a real hit when Zach Hyman was injured and left the ice in Game 4. This morning’s news isn’t good—he’s out for the rest of the postseason after being scheduled for surgery. What that does to the Oilers remains to be seen. One thing’s certain: somebody else will have to step up.

There’s No Question: The Oilers Will Miss Hyman

By losing Hyman, the Oilers must play without one of their most consistent playoff performers for the rest of their Stanley Cup run. He will undergo surgery today for an upper-body injury suffered in Game 4 against the Dallas Stars. Recent news confirmed that the 32-year-old winger will miss the rest of the postseason.

Hyman had been a crucial part of the Oilers’ top six, notching five goals and six assists in 15 playoff games. His absence leaves a major hole in Edmonton’s forward group, both in terms of production and his trademark work ethic.

Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner: Possible Replacements

With Connor Brown’s uncertain status, the Oilers must now look to Jeff Skinner. He hasn’t played since Game 1. Or, they must give Viktor Arvidsson a bigger role after five games as a healthy scratch. It’s a tough blow at a pivotal point in the Western Conference Final.

No word yet on whether this injury will impact Hyman’s availability to start the 2025–26 season. The Oilers will have to battle on without one of their most dependable playoff warriors. One thing at a time. Fortunately, the Oilers just might have the depth to do the job. Fans will soon find out.
