Oilers' Evander Kane suspended one game for hit on Avalanche's Nazem Kadri

Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane has been suspended one game by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for his hit against Colorado Avalanche center Nazem Kadri in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals.

During the opening minutes of Game 3 on Saturday, Kane shoved Kadri into the boards from behind, receiving a five-minute major for boarding.

Kadri left the game with an undisclosed injury. According to Avalanche coach Jared Bednar, Kadri will likely miss the rest of the series.

"He's out - he'll be out for the series at least, if not longer," Bednar said after Game 3. "The hit is the most dangerous hit in hockey."

After the game, Kane described how the play unfolded.

"I was just coming in on the backcheck," Kane said. "Puck went wide, kind of dribbled into the corner. I know he likes to reverse hit. I was just trying to get a bump on him, that's really all I did. Unfortunately he went into the boards awkwardly and hurt his hands. But that was unfortunate."

The Avalanche lead the conference finals 3-0. Colorado will look to complete the four-game sweep on the road in Game 4 Monday at 8 p.m.
