Stuart Skinner hasn't been able to play a role in his team's success since the playoffs started. Indeed, in three games, he hasn't won, has a .817 save percentage and 5.36 goals against average.
Calvin Pickard has been rising up to the occasion, winning six games out of seven, with a .888 SV% and 2.84 GAA, but an injury forced him to sit out the third game between the Oilers and the Golden Knights, and Skinner was sent between the pipes.
The Oilers ended up losing 4-3, with the Golden Knights' game-winning goal being scored in the final second with a tough bounce off Leon Draisaitl.
After the game, Skinner opened up on his role in the loss and his mindset going into the rest of the series:
'That's a goalie's job, just to give your team a chance to win every night. I thought I did. Just a couple tough bounces here and there. We had a good bounce that kind of went off a skate and went in. Those types of things happen. I was happy that I was able to make a couple of big saves when we needed it, but I wasn't able to finish it out.'
He didn't take any accountability for the loss, saying his job is to give his team a chance to win every night and he did it. He also highlighted that he made big saves when he had to, which made some Oilers fans even more angry.
Real profesoinnals are usually unafraid of taking accountability for their mistakes. Skinner's comments infuriated some fans.
Many of them lashed out on X:
Oilers fans will be eager to get an update on Pickard's health ahead of the fourth game of the series.
