Oilers general manager Stan Bowman has taken the legal action of filing a motion to stop a subpoena for deposition in regards to the Chicago Blackhawks scandal.

Oilers GM Stan Bowman takes legal action to stop subpoena for deposition

The news of Bowman's motion to stop the deposition comes was reported by Scott Powers of the Athletic today.

Bowman's motion to dismiss the deposition reportedly argues that he was not served the subpoena properly, and he no longer falls under the court's jurisdiction now that he lives in Canada.

Bowman and other former Blackhawks employees had been issued subpoenas to sit for depositions from John Doe's attorneys.

Bowman's motion Wednesday argues he was not properly served the subpoena because his home is in Edmonton, not Chicago, and the court does not have personal jurisdiction over him for a number of reasons, including he is a resident and citizen of Canada.

The anonymous player, referenced as John Doe, is still pursuing a lawsuit against the Blackhawks for failing to properly act on abuse allegations toward video coach Brad Aldrich. The Blackhawks settled the case with Kyle Beach in 2021.

Through past investigations of the abuses within the Blackhawks organization, it was found on record that Bowman was present during a meeting that referenced both Kyle Beach and the John Doe.

Kevin Cheveldayoff recalled to Jenner & Block that Bowman was present during a team leadership meeting during which Beach and Black Ace 1 were referenced.

After the reports were finalized, Bowman resigned from the Blackhawks and spent three years out of the NHL before being hired by the Oilers last offseason.

Learning from his mistake in Chicago, Stan Bowman should fully cooperate with the John Doe and any efforts to seek justice for any victim of abuse.
