The Edmonton Oilers' ECHL affiliate adds former Red Wings prospect Kirill Tyutyayev in a surprising late move that could give their system an edge heading into 2025-26.

It is not often that late-summer roster shuffles in the minor leagues make waves, but the Edmonton Oilers' system just made one of those under-the-radar moves that could turn heads.

The Oilers' ECHL affiliate, the Fort Wayne Komets, have officially added three new players to their roster, including 24-year-old Russian winger Kirill Tyutyayev, a former Detroit Red Wings draft pick.

The move, confirmed through an official league announcement, gives Edmonton's pipeline a skilled forward with a unique past and the potential to make a mark in North America.

Tyutyayev is a player who, for better or worse, has already left his mark on hockey fans.

He became a viral name after a bizarre moment last season when he tossed a chicken wing into the crowd during a game, earning a game misconduct.

Here is the hilarious clip:

While his antics grabbed the headlines, his play on the ice showed flashes of promise.

Why Kirill Tyutyayev's Arrival Could Change the Fort Wayne Komets' Forward Depth

Last season, Tyutyayev tallied 20 points with seven goals over 30 games for the Komets, while also adding a pair of points in the playoffs.

He also spent time in Russia's VHL, where he chipped in three points in 18 games. His AHL stint with Grand Rapids wasn't as strong, as he managed just six points in 35 games, but the Oilers view him as a player who can bring energy and secondary scoring in the ECHL.

Coach Jesse Kallechy said the move adds skill and energy to the roster, noting Tyutyayev's speed and ability to spark the offense.

For Edmonton, I think this type of addition could help keep their farm system deep and competitive while they build for success across all levels.
