The Edmonton Oilers have been on a roll of late, earning a massive win to start the 2025 Stanley Cup Final. Edmonton squeaked out a win in overtime against the Florida Panthers to take a 1-0 series lead.

But Edmonton has been playing lights out since Game 3 of its first-round series against the Los Angeles Kings. Since losing Game 2 to Los Angeles, the Oilers have gone 13-2 over the last 15 games overall.

A lot of this has to do with the defense stepping up, but also the strong goaltending from the Oilers. Both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard have come up massive for the Oilers in the playoffs, and Edmonton has confidence in each guy.

Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch weighed in on the debate between the two goalies ahead of Game 2.

“If you look at both of those guys, I think they’re enjoying the ride, and I think honestly a lot of guys are,” Knoblauch said Friday. “We’ve got a good group of guys that like being together and like playing hockey. It’s just ideal, it’s June, not many guys are playing hockey right now and they’re enjoying the moment and Stu is no different.

“They want to be having success, they want to play well and do well like he is. He likes being in the situation that he’s in.”

Skinner took back the reins from Pickard in Game 2 of the second round after Pickard suffered an injury. Since then, he has been great for Edmonton and now has them three wins from winning the title.

Each player is more than capable of helping this team win games, and Edmonton is very lucky to be able to choose between them. The Oilers will look to take a 2-0 series lead over Florida in Game 2 on Friday evening.
