The Edmonton Oilers have made two more cuts to their training camp roster.

Following Saturday’s game, the Oilers announced that Samuel Jonsson and Nathaniel Day were loaned to the Oilers’ American Hockey League team, the Bakersfield Condors. With this cut, the Oilers’ training camp roster now stands at 54 players, featuring 31 forwards, 17 defencemen, and six netminders.

Jonsson was drafted in the fifth round of the 2022 draft out of Sweden. After spending the 2024-25 season with Bofors IK in Sweden’s second tier, the right-catching goalie made the move to North America.

Over 33 games with the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets, the 22-year-old had a .910 save percentage and 2.38 goals against average with a 21-8-2 record. He also appeared in 10 post-season games, finishing with a .925 save percentage and 2.31 goals against average. Jonsson ranked as our 12th-best prospect ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Jonsson split the Komets’ crease with Day last season. Drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft, the Grimsby, Ontario product finished the season with an .893 save percentage and 2.76 goals against average over 39 games, appearing in seven post-season games where he had a .912 save percentage and 2.86 goals against average.

Both prospects appeared in the NextGen game earlier this week. Day stopped all six shots he faced in the first period, while Jonsson allowed the lone goal the Oilers surrendered, but made numerous high-danger saves.

As it stands, the Oilers have four goaltending prospects and a veteran goaltender (Matt Tomkins) fighting for four spots between the ECHL and AHL. The other two goaltending prospects, Eemil Vinni and Connor Ungar, remain on the training camp roster for now.

Next up for the Oilers is a rematch against the Jets in Manitoba on Tuesday at 6 p.m. MT.
