The Edmonton Oilers are coming off another loss in the Stanley Cup Final, falling short of their ultimate goal again. As the front office continues to look for ways to improve the team, adding more depth could help things.
Edmonton has had a strong offense for years, but sometimes, the lack of depth has come back to hurt them late in the postseason. This should be a priority for the Oilers this summer, especially as they try to build a more well-rounded roster.
The Oilers haven't done much to improve this summer so far, causing some confusion around the league. But there is still time for the team to add more talent to the current roster.
According to David Staples of the Edmonton Journal, the Oilers could make a lot of sense for Pacioretty. The veteran could serve as a replacement for Corey Perry, who left in free agency for the Los Angeles Kings.
Pacioretty was limited to just 37 games last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs due to injury, and there has been some retirement talk around him. But the veteran could elect to return for another season, giving him the chance to potentially go out on his own terms.
The veteran scored five goals and eight assists for the Maple Leafs last year. If he were to stay healthy, he could provide a real boost to this Oilers team.
Signing Pacioretty could be a risk for the Oilers due to his injury history. But this could also be a good way for Edmonton to replace Perry, if he doesn't end up retiring this offseason.
