The Edmonton Oilers are going to be a team to watch this season for several reasons. Firstly, they are coming off their second straight Stanley Cup Final loss and will have even more motivation to push for their first championship since 1990. Second, the team has a lot of extensions to deal with, specifically Connor McDavid, who could become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) next summer. Lastly, fans have called for a change between the pipes, and while nothing has happened yet, something may still come during the season.
In this edition of Oilers News & Rumours, we start by taking a look at a rumoured trade between the Oilers and the Boston Bruins involving Fabian Lysell. As well, we will look at a different offseason outlook for goaltender Stuart Skinner, and lastly, Evan Bouchard receiving some love in a recent list from the NHL Network.
Over the last couple of days, reports have come out that the Oilers are interested in Bruins’ forward Fabian Lysell.

Lysell, who is 22 years old, has three points through 12 NHL games. With the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, he scored 11 goals and added 23 assists for 34 points through 52 games. Through 162 career AHL games, he has scored 40 goals and added 81 assists for 121 points, which comes out to a 0.75 points-per-game average.
While no other sources have followed up on this, this seems like something worth keeping an eye on.
In a recent article by Derek Van Diest, Stuart Skinner mentioned that he was confident that the Oilers would be able to regroup faster from their latest loss than previously.
Skinner stated, “I think going through it the first time, you go through that experience in the summer and then you realize the things you did well and the things you didn’t do well.” He added: “So going through it a second time, which is obviously devastating, but being able to say you went through this does actually help you get over it quicker, just because you have to go back into training and do it all over again.”
Skinner added that he was confident the Oilers could make another run to the Stanley Cup Final, but also spoke about the changes the team underwent this summer.
He added: “Being able to pick up some pieces, obviously we lost some guys, and that’s always the hard part about the business — you make some great relationships, great friendships, and they get traded or sign somewhere else or whatever. That’s just part of the business. You learn that in juniors when you make some great friends, and you get traded. We’ve all been through that, and it’s hard, but we’re going to create some new friendships and some great relationships, and that’s another amazing thing about the game.”
Skinner was at the center of trade rumours earlier this summer, but he was never moved, and it seems as though the Oilers are starting the new campaign with the same tandem as last season.
In a recent top-20 ranking from NHL Network, Evan Bouchard was listed as the 10th-best defender in the NHL.

Fans of almost every team pushed back on the list they published, but at the end of the day, Bouchard being shown some love is always a good thing for Oilers fans to see, especially as he continues to fly under the radar as one of the most underrated players in the league at this point.
