
A young center is going to be on the shelf for a little while.
On Friday, the Edmonton Oilers announced that forward Colton Dach has been placed on long-term injured reserve. In response, the team recalled forward Max Jones from its American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.

It isn’t entirely clear what Dach hurt, but he left Tuesday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche early and didn’t return. He was ruled out of the team’s game against the Dallas Stars on Thursday with an undisclosed ailment.
With Dach’s placement on LTIR presumably retroactive to March 11, he won’t be eligible to return to the lineup until April 7, when the Oilers visit the Utah Mammoth.
Dach’s appearance on Tuesday was just his third game with the Oilers since being acquired in part of the deal that saw him and Jason Dickinson be traded to Edmonton by the Chicago Blackhawks a few days before the trade deadline. He posted an assist last Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights, his first point with his new team.
In 56 games in all this year, the 23-year-old has scored three goals and seven assists for 10 points. Dach has played in 81 games, posting five goals and 12 assists for 17 points.
Jones, who was acquired by the Oilers from the Boston Bruins exactly a year before Dach was traded, has spent most of the 2025-26 season with the Condors. In 39 games, he has scored 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points. The 28-year-old has appeared in eight games with Edmonton this year, scoring a goal and an assist.
The Oilers (32-26-8) came into Friday’s action third in the Pacific Division, three points back of the Anaheim Ducks for first place.
