The Edmonton Oilers took a 3-1 series lead over the Vegas Golden Knights, placing themselves just one win away from making the Western Conference Final. Edmonton has its sights on getting back to the Stanley Cup Final after losing in Game 7 last season.

While the players likely aren't thinking about the upcoming offseason, it's probably been on the minds of the front office. Any good team is always thinking ahead, and Edmonton could be very active this summer.

NHL writer Lyle Richardson of Bleacher Report posted surprising landing spots for upcoming free agents. Within, the Oilers landed star defenseman Aaron Ekblad of the Florida Panthers.

"The Oilers saw Ekblad's talent first hand in last season's Stanley Cup Final. Scherber makes the case that his effectiveness, ability to adapt to different defense partners, and overall skills would be a terrific fit on Edmonton's blue line. He'd also have a chance to play with superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl."

During this season, Ekbland scored three goals and 30 assists for the Panthers over 56 games. Ekbland has been crucial for the Panthers in the postseason already, scoring one goal and three assists in five games.

Ekblad landing in Edmonton would be interesting, but it could help this Oilers team be more effective on the defensive side of the ice. The Oilers have been so offensive-heavy in the past few years, so adding a player like Ekblad could help balance the team out.

Edmonton is expected to have an interesting offseason, and if they could sign someone like Ekblad, it may change everything.
