Oilers reassign 15 players to trim training camp roster

The Edmonton Oilers are close to finalizing their roster.

On Friday morning, the Oilers sent down most of their minor-league roster that remained with the big club after a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks the night before.

Josh Brown, Riley Stillman, and Eduards Tralmaks have been placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Bakersfield. 

Tomas Cibulka, Connor Clattenburg, Quinn Hutson, Viljami Marjala, William Nicholl, Aku Räty, and Connor Ungar have also been loaned to the Condors. Rudolfs Berzkalns, Caden Harvey, David Lewandowski, and Andrew Robinson are returning to the junior clubs. 

Out of that group, Marjala may have left the greatest impression on the coaching staff for future call-up purposes, but the organization should be happy with how Tomas Cibulka looked in his one pre-season game on Thursday, as well as Quinn Hutson, who at times looked strong.

However, one name that is staying up for the moment is right-handed centre, Owen Michaels. He’s shown good positional awareness and habits, but this decision likely has to do with Jason Dickinson’s availability and injury status moving forward.

Coach Mike Babcock said earlier this week that Dickinson was trending to play the last preseason game in Calgary on Saturday. But a follow-up on Friday says he’s had a setback and is unlikely to start the season.

Max Jones also remains with the Oilers. He re-signed with Edmonton in the offseason after playing 21 games in the NHL in 2025-26 and was expected to be in a positional battle to make the team.
