Oilers Receive Devastating Calvin Pickard Injury Update Amid Vegas Series

The Edmonton Oilers dominated Game 4 on Monday night, taking a 3-1 lead over the Vegas Golden Knights after blanking them in a 3-0 victory.

Midway through the game, TSN dropped a key update that may affect the rest of the series.

According to ESPN, echoing TSN's report, goaltender Calvin Pickard is expected to miss at least one more week after sustaining a lower-body injury in Game 2 last Thursday.

“I’m told it’ll probably be at least a week,” TSN's Darren Dreger reported, effectively ruling the veteran netminder out for the remainder of the second-round series.

Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday, followed by Game 6 on Friday and Game 7 on Sunday, the latter two only if necessary.

Pickard is undefeated in six playoff starts this year before he collided with Tomas Hertl late in Game 2 of the series against the Golden Knights.

The goalie finished that game and helped secure a 5-4 overtime win, but hasn’t practiced since.

With Pickard unavailable, Stuart Skinner has taken over the starting role. Skinner allowed a last-second goal in Game 3 that cut Edmonton’s series lead to 2-1, but bounced back with a 23-save shutout in Game 4.

“We just put on our work boots and our hard hats and went to work. The way that we’ve competed over a number of games is pretty incredible,” Skinner said after Game 4. “When you see our guys rolling and playing with that desperation and that fight that we’ve got, we always give ourselves a chance to win.”

Backup Olivier Rodrigue dressed for Game 4 in Pickard’s absence, backing up Skinner.

The Golden Knights will look to keep their season alive against the Oilers in Game 5, scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
