The Edmonton Oilers may finally be addressing their biggest weakness, as new rumors suggest the team is closing in on a trade for Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry.

On Friday, the "2 Mutts Hockey Podcast" posted on X that it is “hearing that Tristan Jarry is being traded to the Edmonton Oilers and the Penguins will retain 50% of his salary,” adding that more details on the full trade package are still being gathered.

The speculation follows earlier reports from NHL analyst Kevin Weekes, who noted on Nov. 26 that Jarry was drawing “significant interest” from Edmonton.

" I’m told 2X NHL All-Star and @penguins Goalie Tristan Jarry is among the goalies drawing significant interest as a potential option for the @EdmontonOilers , keep in mind he played in Edmonton with the Oil Kings. #HockeyX," Weekes posted on X.

Jarry is in the middle of an outstanding stretch for the Penguins. He made 37 saves in a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, improving to 9-2-0 with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. Since returning from injury, he has not lost a start, going 4-0-0 while keeping Pittsburgh competitive in a tight Eastern Conference race.

For Edmonton, the need is obvious. The Oilers sit at 12-11-5 and have struggled to keep pucks out of their net, allowing 3.50 goals per game. Their elite offense, led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, has masked inconsistent goaltending, but not enough to stabilize their season.

Stuart Skinner has been uneven, and Calvin Pickard has struggled significantly, posting a 4.04 GAA and an .851 save percentage.

If the rumors prove true, the Oilers will likely need to move one of their current goalies, with Pickard appearing the most vulnerable given his recent performances and Edmonton’s need for reliability in net.
