The Edmonton Oilers dropped Game 1 of the Western Conference Final to the Dallas Stars in heartbreaking fashion. Edmonton collapsed in the game and allowed the Stars to grab a huge win to open the series.
It was a tough situation for the Oilers to be in, and they folded when things got tough. Dallas took advantage of every situation and now leads the series 1-0 as the two sides get ready for Game 2.
After the game, Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner had some interesting thoughts on the game. Skinner admitted that the team let their guard down for multiple minutes at a time during the contest.
“Obviously we let down our guard for five or six minutes and got into some penalty trouble,” Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner said. “They were coming out hot, momentum kind of shifted for them in that moment, and obviously it bit us. It’s up to us to learn from, myself included obviously, and we have to get better from it.”
For the Oilers to tie up the series, they will need much more focus in Game 2. Dallas is one of the better offensive teams in the NHL, so Edmonton can't afford to have any mental lapses during the games.
The Oilers showed that they could compete with the Stars, but they just couldn't finish the game. Things could look very bleak for them if they aren't able to come out with a better game plan in Game 2.
Game 2 between the two sides is scheduled for Friday, May 23, at 8 p.m. ET.
