Oilers trade forward Zack Kassian to Coyotes

The Arizona Coyotes acquired forward Zack Kassian from the Edmonton Oilers in a draft-day trade Thursday night.

The Oilers trade forward Zack Kassian, the No. 29 pick in the 2022 NHL draft, and future second (2025) and third-round (2024) picks to the Coyotes for the No. 32 pick in this year's draft.

Kassian played 58 regular-season games this season for the Oilers, posting 19 points (six goals, 13 assists). In 16 postseason games, Kassian had four points (two goals, two assists), averaging just over eight minutes of ice time a game.

The 31-year-old has two years remaining on a four-year, $12.8 million contract. Kassian will make $3.5 million in 2022-23 and $2.3 million in 2023-24.

Reportedly, the Oilers won't retain any of Kassian's salary in the deal.

Kassian spent seven seasons in Edmonton, posting 135 points (55 goals, 80 assists) in 412 games.

With the No. 29 pick, the Coyotes selected defenseman Javeric Lamoureux from the Drummondville Voltiguers of the QMJHL.

Last season for the Voltigeurs, Lamoureux posted 24 points (four goals, 20 assists) in 54 regular-season games. He posted an assist in four postseason games.

The Oilers used the No. 32 pick on forward Reid Schaefer from the WHL Seattle Thunderbirds.

Schaefer, 18, played 66 regular-season games with the Thunderbirds last season, posting 58 points (32 goals, 26 assists). In 25 playoff games, he finished with 21 points (six goals, 15 assists).
