Oliver Ekman-Larsson of the Toronto Maple Leafs was brought in to bring defensive stability to the team as they look to finally win a Stanley Cup.
For the most part, Larsson has provided the team with just that. He has been a sensational presence for the Leafs, who have had a strong start to the season. Yesterday, the Leafs played against the Tampa Bay Lightning and they ended up winning by a score of 5-2. It was a solid performance for the Leafs who continue to be an offensive juggernaut.
However, Ekman-Larsson found himself in some trouble thanks to an interference penalty from a hit on Jake Guentzel. Subsequently, Ekman-Larsson was hit with a $5K fine from the Department of Player Safety.
As you can see in the Tweets down below, many Maple Leafs fans were livid with the decision to give Ekman-Larsson a fine. At the end of the day, his hit wasn't that big and didn't warrant that big of a fine. However, such is life over in Lead-and these days. One step forward, two steps back.
Needless to say, this is yet another controversial move by the NHL Department of Player Safety. Some believe that George Parros has it out for the Leafs, but who is to say if that is true?
