Olympics: Tage Thompson Out for Precautionary Reasons Against Slovakia

The United States is leading Slovakia 6-1 in the semifinals of their Olympic game. The winner will face Canada in the Gold Medal game on Sunday with the loser facing Finland for the Bronze Medal tomorrow. The United States is without forward Tage Thompson for the remainder of today’s game. The injury has not been disclosed but assumptions are that, with the current lead they are just playing it safe. Thompson scored one of the five United States goals today. Jack Hughes has two of the other four goals with Dylan Larkin, Brady Tkachuk, and Jack Eichel each adding one. Slovakia’s lone goal has come from Juraj Slafkovsky. Thompson so far in the tournament has three goals and an assist. This season in 57 games for the Sabres he has 59 points on 30 goals and 29 assists. He’s a minus-eight with five power-play goals and three game-winning goals.

Tage Thompson

The St. Louis Blues drafted Thompson 26th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He made his debut on October 4, 2017. Thompson recorded his first career NHL point on December 21st of that season which was also his first career goal. He finished that rookie season appearing in 41 games recording nine points on three goals and six assists. The Blues traded him to Buffalo where he’s spent the last eight seasons appearing in 464 games recording 375 points on 203 goals and 172 assists. He’s a -52 with 54 power-play goals, five shorthanded goals, and 23 game-winning goals.
