Season review

Martin Chromiak, once a highly touted prospect, seemed to fall out of favor last season. Then, in one small lineup adjustment from then-head coach Marco Sturm, things changed. Chromiak, after hitting rock bottom, went on a torrid stretch with 15 points in 16 games playing alongside AHL veterans Glenn Gawdin and Charles Hudon. The ending to his season bought him another year with the organization by signing a one-year NHL contract in June of 2025.

Entering the season, it was simply a make-or-break year for Chromiak. The shot and scoring prowess that was his eggs and bacon on the scouting report in his draft year came to life. The fourth-year pro set career highs across the board in goals, assists, points, power-play goals, and game-winning goals.

His 28 goals, 56 points, 15 5-on-5 goals, 23 5-on-5 primary points, 12 power-play goals, and 24 power-play points all lead the Reign. It was a season of confidence and growth that he needed. His play had his name being thrown around for a potential call-up to the Kings should the situation arise, but it never materialized.

Even with the breakout season in Ontario, the 23-year-old finds himself in a tough spot. His shot is the main tool in his toolbox, but the Kings don’t have many openings at the moment in the top six. Perhaps maybe an opening on the third line, but Chromiak isn’t a player whose game is suited for a bottom-line role. I’m interested to see what the future holds for the former possible hidden gem in the Kings’ prospect pool five years ago.
