Ottawa Senators Expected to Trade One Specific Defenseman Imminently

Max Guenette hasn't gotten much of a chance in Ottawa, and now it's expected that the Senators will trade the 24-year old in the coming days.

Back in the 2019 NHL Draft, the Ottawa Senators used a seventh-round pick on Max Guenette, a defenseman out of Quebec, and to this point, he hasn't gotten much of an opportunity in the NHL.

At 24-years of age, Guenette has played in just eight NHL games with the Senators, posting no points during that time, and that comes despite some productive seasons in the AHL, tallying 16 goals and 57 points in 116 games over the past two seasons.

Ottawa Reshaping AHL Blue Line Leaves Guenette Without a Spot

Fortunately for Ottawa, the reason why Guenette hasn't had a shot yet is due to the talent they've already got on the blue line, meaning that he likely won't get a shot moving forward.

As a result, reports have now revealed the team are looking to move on from the talented 24-year old, especially after signing Donovan Sebrango earlier this week, giving them even more of a logjam on the blue line.

Why a Depth-for-Depth Swap Makes the Most Sense for Senators

The best deal for Ottawa here would be a swap of depth pieces, but with Guenette likely to push for an NHL role elsewhere, the team would likely hope to land a forward in any potential trade.

Ultimately, Guenette may end up having a very solid career and may play plenty of NHL games, but it doesn't make sense for Ottawa right now, meaning a trade in the near future is the best and most likely outcome.
