Matt Murray’s time in the AHL is over. At least for now.
The Ottawa Senators announced on Tuesday that they’ve recalled Murray from the AHL’s Belleville Senators. This comes less than 24 hours after Ottawa goalie Anton Forsberg was placed in COVID protocols.
Murray, 27, had been with Belleville since late November, when he was placed on – and cleared — waivers by Ottawa after he started the season winless in six games, with a 3.26 goals-against average and .890 save percentage.
"I was looking at it as a way to keep building on positives and try to keep hardening up my game and that's what I feel like I did."

In two games with Belleville, Murray went 1-1-0, with a 2.55 goals-against average and .918 save percentage.
Murray is in the second year of a four-year, $25 million contract.
Murray struggled last season as well, going 10-13-1, with a 3.38 goals-against average and .893 save percentage, which were 68th and 70th in the league among qualifying goalies, respectively.
When – or if – Murray sees any action with the Senators remains uncertain. Ottawa isn’t scheduled to play again until Friday, when it would host the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Senators have already had their last four games postponed and have Wednesday’s game against the Boston Bruins postponed as well.
Ottawa is in sixth place in the Atlantic Division with a 9-17-2 record.
