Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand’s night ended early Tuesday after he took a hit from Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann late in the second period.

Panthers coach Paul Maurice revealed the reason for Marchand’s early exit during his postgame media availability, admitting the exit went beyond that single hit.

According to Maurice, Marchand had already been “dealing with something” previously unreported heading into the matchup.

“He’s been dealing with something,” Maurice said. “It just got to the point where we didn’t want to make it worse. We’re a little sensitive about injuries here now. We do our best to keep guys healthy.”

Marchand was on the ice for 11:41 before leaving the game. He finished with one shot and was held off the scoresheet for a second consecutive game, after breaking a 10-game point streak on Saturday.

The exact nature of Marchand’s injury remains undisclosed, as Maurice stopped short of sharing any further details about it.

It’s unclear whether Marchand will be available for Florida’s next game, Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens.

The 37-year-old forward has been a central piece for the Panthers this season. Appearing in 41 games, Marchand leads all Panthers with 23 goals and 46 points. Marchand was also named to Canada’s 2026 Olympics roster on Dec. 31.

Florida, meanwhile, keeps navigating multiple injuries to some of their key players, including team captain Aleksander Barkov and star winger Matthew Tkachuk.

The Panthers (22–17–3) sit fifth in the Atlantic Division and are two points out of the wild-card places. They’ll visit the Canadiens on Thursday, with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
