Montreal Canadiens forward Patrick Laine made a controversial comment about Alex Ovechkin ahead of their playoff series against the Capitals.
The Montreal Canadiens shocked many fans around the NHL including their own by making the playoffs this year.
It was an awesome year for the young team and their fans, but they now face a daunting first-round matchup against the Washington Capitals.
The entire team will have to play at their very best if they want a chance to take down the Eastern Conference winners.
Luckily, the team has a couple of weapons that could prove to be difference makers in the series.
One of those would be rookie defenseman Lane Hutson, who recently received high praise from Hall of Famer Ray Bourque.
Hutson lead all rookies in points with 6 goals and 66 points in 82 games.
Hutson will quarterback the Canadiens top powerplay in the series where he will be joined by Patrick Laine, who had some interesting things to say ahead of the playoffs.
In an interview today he was asked what it meant to be facing off against Alex Ovechkin, and his nonchalant response drew heavy criticism.
Fans were not happy with Laine as this comment came across as disrespectful and rude.
Laine ended the regular season on quite the cold streak, scoring just 2 goals over his last ten games.
Luckily, the Habs have been joined by top prospect Ivan Demidov, who also directed comments at Alex Ovechkin ahead of the series.
Either way, this figures to be a fun first round matchup with a lot of pride on the line. Be sure to tune in to see if Ovechkin and the Capitals will get the last laugh.
