Patrik Laine has been trying to make a comeback in the NHL this season, and he is doing so with the Montreal Canadiens, who just so happened to be playing the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight.
Unfortunately, disaster struck for Laine and the Habs. While entering the zone, Laine collided with Cedric Pare in what was a knee-on-knee hit. It looked like an accident, but it was a dangerous play nonetheless. Laine immediately went down on the ice and had to be helped off by his teammates and trainers.
It was devastating and according to reports, Laine threw his gloves and helmet as he walked down the tunnel back to the locker room. It was a horrible scene and now, his season might be in jeopardy. Some of the stills of the injury make it look quite bad, and there is no diagnosis yet on what it could be.
Habs fans in the building were silent after the injury. This was supposed to be a big season for Laine as he hoped to shed some of the negative things that had been said about him over the years. Now, he may not get that chance.
We hope that the injury isn't serious and that Laine can come back to the Habs roster this season. You never want to see this kind of hit as it is extremely dangerous. Only time will tell what the prognosis is here. But for now, it is not looking very good.
