Penguins blow three-goal lead, still beat Rangers in Game 3

The Pittsburgh Penguins are up 2-1 in a first round series with the New York Rangers after getting a 7-4 win at home Saturday.

Pittsburgh is still without its top two goaltenders — Tristan Jarry and Casey DeSmith — and was again forced to rely on third-stringer Louis Domingue in goal. But it was the Rangers' Igor Shesterkin who struggled early, allowing four first period goals and making only 11 saves.

Shersterkin was benched for the final two periods and the Rangers instead relied on Alexandar Georgiev. The swap worked for New York in the second period, as the team erased a 4-1 deficit and tied the game 4-4 before the start of the third period.

It wasn't until Anton Heinen found the back of the net with just under nine minutes left that the Penguins finally scored against Georgiev and took back the lead.

The Penguins later sealed the deal with a pair of empty net goals in the final minutes. Evan Rodrigues and Jeff Carter each scored a pair of goals for Pittsburgh in the win.

Game 4 in Pittsburgh is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. ET.
