The Pittsburgh Penguins were eliminated from postseason contention earlier this month after falling to the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Qualifiers, and now players are preparing for next season.
For some players, surgery is among the many preparations for next year's campaign, and it was announced Monday that Evgeni Malkin underwent successful surgery on his left elbow.

Malkin's expected recovery time is three-to-four weeks.
The 34-year-old led the Penguins in both points (74) and assists (49) while tallying 25 goals during the regular season. In four games against the Canadiens he had just one assist.
After Pittsburgh was eliminated, general manager Jim Rutherford announced he plans to retool his roster ahead of next season instead of rebuild. That means Malkin and other talented players such as Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang will remain with the club going forward.
