The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they have placed centers Ben Kindel and Blake Lizotte, winger Justin Brazeau and defenseman Ryan Graves on injured reserve going into the regular season.

Kindel is the most notable of the four injuries, as the sophomore is week-to-week with a lower-body injury that he sustained during Monday’s 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres. It’s unclear how he sustained the injury or what specifically is injured, but the Penguins will hope his timeline for return is on the shorter end of the week-to-week spectrum. He was held without a point in the lone preseason appearance.

Brazeau is the other notable injury, with the 28 year old sustaining a lower-body injury that will also keep him out of the lineup on a week-to-week basis. He also injured himself during Monday’s win over the Sabres, and like Kindel, the cause of the injury is not known. He was also held without a point in the game before his exit.

Lizotte was announced as day-to-day with his upper-body injury after missing the entirety of training camp. However, having been initially announced as week-to-week at the start of camp, the change to day-to-day is a good sign for his return soon. He’ll have to spend a minimum of seven calendar days on IR before returning, unless the move is retroactive to the start of camp, but that was not included in the Pens’ announcement.

The most uncertain injury is Graves’, as the defenseman is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. He did get into two preseason games, but apparently has been dealing with an unspecified knee issue for some time and is looking for further options to rehab the injury. Graves went without a point in his two preseason games.

The Penguins will kick off their regular season without these four players when they visit their state rivals in the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
