The Pittsburgh Penguins have just locked up a piece of their forward depth.

The team announced Monday they have signed center Blake Lizotte to a three-year contract extension that will carry an average annual value of $2.25 million.

This season, Lizotte has five goals and five assists for 10 points through 35 games played, while averaging just under 14 minutes of ice time.

Lizotte, 28, had signed a two-year, $3.7 million contract with Pittsburgh as an unrestricted free agent (UFA) in July of 2024. He was scheduled to become a UFA once again after this season prior to this extension. Last season with the Penguins, the Lindstrom, Minnesota native put up 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points in 59 games.

After two productive collegiate seasons with St. Cloud State in the NCAA, Lizotte began his professional career by signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He immediately stepped into the Kings lineup as a full-time NHLer, as he registered six goals and 17 assists for 23 points over 65 games in his rookie season of 2019-20.

In total, Lizotte spent five full season in Los Angeles before leaving for Pittsburgh in free agency. His career-best campaign came in the 2022-23 season, when he notched 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points in 81 games. Over his career so far, he has 53 goals and 83 assists for 136 points in 414 games played.

With Lizotte now taken care of, the Penguins still have a number of players scheduled to become free agents after the season, headlined by franchise legend Evgeni Malkin.

Pittsburgh will begin a three-game home stand Tuesday when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning, followed by the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday and the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
