Pittsburgh Penguins forward Teddy Blueger earned a new contract with his play during the 2020-21 NHL season. The Penguins have now rewarded him with just that.
The Penguins announced Wednesday that they've re-signed Blueger to a two-year, one-way deal that carries an average annual value of $2.2 million. Blueger recorded seven goals and 15 assists with a plus-10 rating across 43 regular-season games in 2020-21, and he tallied a team-best three shorthanded goals.
He notched zero points during the postseason tournament.
"Teddy has proven to be a versatile, two-way center, as well as a fixture on the penalty kill," general manager Ron Hextall said in the prepared statement. "He is a valuable player for our team."
Earlier this month, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times mentioned Blueger, who turns 27 years old in August, as a potential selection for the Seattle Kraken in the upcoming expansion draft. In 140 career regular-season contests, Blueger has 22 goals, 32 assists, and a plus-19 rating.
