The Dallas Stars dropped Game 2 of the Western Conference Final to the Edmonton Oilers, seeing their home-ice advantage disappear. The scene will now shift over to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4, giving the Oilers a potential edge in the series.
Dallas will need to win at least one game on the road if it wants to advance to the Stanley Cup Final. But even with the loss in Game 2, Stars head coach Peter DeBoer doesn't seem overly concerned.
“I liked our game better tonight than I did Game 1 and we won Game 1,” DeBoer said. “I thought we give up that power-play goal, first goal is important in this series. We take a penalty and they score on the first power play, so we’re playing from behind. Then it’s a pretty even game for a big chunk of the game. Their second goal, we block a shot and it bounces right on their stick and they stick it into the net. The third goal is a tip at the front of the net. We had some looks too where [Skinner] made some saves. Sure, when you get shut out, you can do a better job in front of their goalie. But I don’t think the score was as dramatically reflective of the game as [perceived], but that’s just my opinion."
DeBoer may be talking about how the Stars were forced to pull off an epic comeback in Game 1. But the fact remains that Dallas was shut out in Game 2 and will need much better focus in the next contest to grab a win.
Dallas had won seven straight home games in the playoffs entering Game 2, but the Oilers found a way to slow them down. The Stars will need to generate better scoring chances in Game 3, otherwise, they run the risk of allowing Edmonton to take back all the momentum in the series.
