The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Nolan Foote to a one-year, two-way contract, per PuckPedia. The team has not yet officially announced the deal.
Foote, who is repped by Kurt Overhardt of The Team, will earn a league-minimum salary of $850K in the NHL, and $300K in the AHL.
This contract will provide Foote with a slight pay raise compared to what he earned last season. On a free agent deal signed with the Florida Panthers just over one year ago, Foote earned a $775K NHL salary (which was then the league minimum), $150K AHL salary, and $250K guarantee.
A 2019 first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Foote is now on his third NHL organization in three seasons. He was non-tendered by the Devils a year ago and opted to sign in Florida, as mentioned. The 6’3″, 201-pound winger had a decent season in the Panthers organization, scoring 14 goals and 32 points in 54 games for the team’s AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.
Florida weathered significant injuries last year, and lost a substantial portion of its forward crops by the end of the campaign. Foote was able to get into some NHL games as a result of those injuries. He ended up skating in 12 games, the most NHL games played of any single season in his young career, and scored one goal for one point in those contests.
Now in Philadelphia, Foote will enter training camp hoping to grab a spot on the team’s season-opening roster. Given his relative lack of success at the NHL level thus far, it would be somewhat surprising to see Foote break camp in the NHL. The most likely outcome at this point is Foote begins the year with the club’s AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and hopes to earn recalls over the course of the season.
