Philip Svedeback Signs With ECHL Wheeling Nailers

According to a team announcement, the Wheeling Nailers have signed goaltender Philip Svedebäck.

Svedeback spent his last four seasons at Providence College, posting a .908 save percentage and 2.30 goals against average over 113 games, winning 54 of those games and earning five shutouts. In his final season, he helped the Friars win their second Hockey East Regular Season Championship in school history. Svedebäck, before Providence, had played his entire career in Sweden, including three seasons of J20 play with his hometown Växjö. He also played one season of USHL hockey with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in 2021-22.

Formerly a fourth-round pick by the Bruins in the 2021 NHL Draft, Svedeback had never signed his entry-level contract with Boston. This summer, his rights were set to expire on August 15th, along with forwards Andre Gasseau (2021, 7-213), who the Bruins dealt away to San Jose, Oskar Jellvik (2021, 5-149), who signed in Sweden, and D Mason Langenbrunner (2020, 5-151), who retired. Svedeback is now the sixth of seven draft picks from that 2021 Bruins draft class to depart from the organization.

This also came from the movement made by the Bruins in the crease. Boston notably drafted two goalies in this past NHL draft, first Yuri Ivanov with their second-round pick, and Roberto Henriquez brought back Simon Zajicek and Luke Cavallin as well as brought in Jiri Patera in the free agent window to round out the already signed Max Lundgren from Merrimack College as depth goalies.
