Mitch Marner’s future with the Toronto Maple Leafs remains in the air following another postseason collapse, and one prominent insider has a clear idea of what's going to happen.
TSN’s Pierre LeBrun shared his view on "OverDrive," suggesting Marner will "likely" reach unrestricted free agency on July 1.
The winger’s six-year, $65.4 million contract is set to expire on that date, and with no extension agreed upon with Toronto’s front office, LeBrun doesn't think that'd change between now and then.
“I think Marner himself, if he goes to market, which I think is likely, will probably look at the usual suspects,” LeBrun said. “Florida (Panthers), Vegas (Golden Knights), all the teams that we always end up keen on, where players seem to love to go.”

Marner finished the regular season with 102 points in 81 games and added 13 points in 13 playoff appearances.
Despite those great numbers, the Leafs once again failed to reach the Eastern Conference finals, falling to Florida in Game 7 of their second-round series. The loss meant Toronto has not advanced past the second round since 2002.
While LeBrun identified the Golden Knights and the Panthers as potential landing spots for Marner, he also emphasized that the winger will be a coveted player across the league, with many more suitors expected to join the race for his signature.
Marner refused to waive his no-movement clause in March amid trade interest from Carolina and gave no definitive answer during his exit interview earlier this month regarding his commitment to returning to the franchise.
“I’ve always loved my time here,” Marner said. “I loved being here … I’ve been so grateful.”
