It hasn’t been a full calendar year, but the LA Kings have moved on from their prize trade acquisition from last summer.

Forward Pierre-Luc Dubois has been traded to the Washington Capitals, per Pierre LeBrun from the Athletic. This is the second straight offseason that Rob Blake has fixed his mistake. Last year, he got out of the Cal Petersen contract but had to retain two million dollars for two years of Ivan Provorov and throw in this year’s first-round pick. This year it is Dubois, who had an abysmal first year of an eight-year contract he signed as part of a sign-and-trade with the Winnipeg Jets.

As for the Kings, they get their goalie in Darcy Kuemper without giving up other valuable assets, and no salary retained in the deal. Kuemper has three years remaining on his contract. Moving out Dubois’ 8.5 million AAV and bringing in Kuemper’s 5.25 AAV, gives the Kings an extra 3.25 million in cap space.

The question is, what will Blake do with it? Stay tuned.
