The Pittsburgh Penguins have been forced to make an emergency recall from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, with Joona Koppanen coming up to the big club.

Joona Koppanen played a really outstanding game in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' recent victory over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, scoring two goals in a 5-3 win on Sunday at the PPL Center..

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton started off very well, as they set the tone very early in the game. Tristan Broz put the Penguins on the board first with a first period goal, which was created by Mathias Laferriere.

Shortly after that goal, Koppanen scored his first of the night, making it 2-0, and sent his Penguins team into the first intermission up by two.

The Phantoms did mount a counter-attack, though, as the Penguins maintained their grip on the game.

Koppanen scored two goals in his most recent game

Just 42 seconds into the third period, Koppanen came to the plate for the second time and sealed victory with his second of the evening, winning his team the game 5-3. Koppanen's recent play has most assuredly not gone unnoticed.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been keeping close tabs on him, and they have undoubtedly been impressed by his strong play and ability to make an impact in key situations, as was apparent in his last game.

His offensive contribution in that 5-3 win and his two-way sound play earned him the call as Pittsburgh's go-to call-up today as an emergency, a testament to his hard work and rising value in the organization.

There are likely some injuries that Pittsburgh is struggling with, and that is likely why they needed to bring Koppanen up in a hurry.
