The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that they have placed forwards Justin Brazeau and Noel Acciari, as well as goaltender Tristan Jarry on the injured reserve. In a corresponding move, the Penguins have recalled Danton Heinen, Ryan Graves and goaltender Sergei Murashov from their AHL affiliate, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Brazeau has been dealing with an upper-body injury and has missed the last two games before finally being placed on the IR. Acciari suffered an upper-body injury in their game on Monday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. As for Jarry, it’s uncertain what his injury is at this time. Jarry was in the net for the duration of the contest between the Penguins and Leafs but clearly something must have been bothering him during the game to get placed on the IR.
This is a major hit to the Penguins as they’ve been off to an outstanding start to the year, posting an 8-4-2 record. Currently good enough for second in the Metropolitan Division. Brazeau has been on fire to start the year, scoring six goals and 12 points in 12 games this season alongside Evgeni Malkin and Anthony Mantha on what has been deemed the “Mutant Line”. Tristan Jarry has been equally impressive this season, securing a 5-2 record while posting a goals against average of 2.60 and a save percentage of .911. He has also recorded a shutout. For his part, Acciari has registered three assists in 13 games.
Without Jarry, the Penguins will rely heavily on Arturs Silovs. The 24-year-old has been going game for game with Jarry, sporting a 3-2-2 record with a goals against average of 2.66 and a save percentage of .913. He has also recorded a shutout. It will be interesting to see if they give Sergei Murashov a start on November 8th or 9th as they play back-to-back against the New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings. Murashov has been outstanding in the AHL so far this season and was named the goaltender of the month for the month of October.
As it stands, Philip Tomasino has jumped into Brazeau’s place on the second line, while Danton Heinen should take over for Acciari on the fourth line. The Penguins return to action on November 6th against the Washington Capitals.
